U.S. label

Severin Films has revealed that it is planning to add more cult and favorite genre to its Blu-ray catalog later this year. Amongst them are Lawrence D. Foldes's Young Warriors, Joe D'Amato's Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals. and Jess Franco's Merchants of Sex.

Young Warriors (1983)

Synopsis: "In a conventional teen movie that condemns violence in the dialogue then supplies it in the action sequences, a young woman is gang raped and murdered in a California college town, sparking her brother Kevin (James Van Patten) to take up arms by night with a gang of like-minded vigilantes from his fraternity, brutally punishing any miscreants they catch in a criminal act. In the meantime, Kevin debates the issue of violent crime in the U.S. with his teachers and others during the day. As Kevin and his gang head toward a final, bloody confrontation with the low-lifes who murdered his sister, other scenes show the difference between his character, now violent, and the normal people he is supposedly protecting."

NEW UK/US TITLE: George Romero Between Night and Dawn (Dual Format Blu-ray & DVD)

Three rare early works by George Romero made between Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead

Release Dates: 23/24 October 2017

George Romeros name may be synonymous with the living dead subgenre, but his filmography is far richer and more varied than his reputation as the zombie guy would suggest. Following the breakout success of his debut feature Night of the Living Dead, the director would embark upon a series of projects which, whilst firmly rooted in the horror genre for the most part, demonstrate a master filmmaker with more than mere gut-munching on his mind.

In Theres Always Vanilla, Romeros sophomore 1971 directorial effort, young drifter Chris and beautiful model Lynn embark upon a tumultuous relationship which seems doomed from the outset. 1972s Season of the Witch (originally filmed as Jacks Wife but released to theaters under the title of Hungry Wives) follows the exploits of Joan Mitchell – a housewife whose dissatisfaction with her humdrum life leads to an unhealthy interest in the occult. Lastly, 1973s The Crazies, which sees Romero returning to more straight horror territory, has a small rural town finding itself in the grip of an infection which send its hosts into a violent, homicidal frenzy.

Taken together, these three early works, made in the period between Romeros celebrated living dead outings Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, serve to display the broader thematic concerns and auteurist leanings of a skilled craftsman too often pigeonholed within the genre.

Nightbreed: The Cabal Cut

Hello Friends!

It’s always a great day here at the @BarkerCast when we have EXCLUSIVE NEWS to pass on to our listeners and readers who stick with us for their Clive Barker news and discussion.

Today we have very EXCITING NEWS! The CABAL CUT of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed will be available soon on Blu-Ray, and using the best quality footage available!!!

Yes, you heard us right— That CABAL CUT you saw at a screening back in 2012/2013 around the world, hosted by Russell Cherrington, or Russell and Mark Miller, along with some of the cast members like Craig Sheffer, Anne Bobby, Nicko Vince or Simon Bamford, is FINALLY going to be available on a VERY limited Blu-Ray disc release, just signed off by Morgan Creek and rebuilt in-house at Seraphim, using the best quality footage available. Remember the graininess and the terrible muddy quality of the VHS workprints? That’s been cleared out a LOT, although for some segments they still used it; but there’s no other choice for those segments that weren’t found in the warehouse boxes for the Shout! Factory edition.

12 minutes of VHS footage remain on a 145 minute Cabal Cut. Stuff you’ve never seen anywhere else, folks.

Now for the fun part: Not only will this release feature a commentary track by RUSSELL CHERRINGTON and JIMMI JOHNSON, original editors of the several versions of the CABAL CUT that toured the world and rallied the fans to demand for the release of the Director’s Cut, but RYAN DANHAUSER and JOSE LEITAO from the @BARKERCAST is producing a commentary track of our own for this release! So stay tuned for that!

It will also feature a VIDEO INTRODUCTION by MARK MILLER, VP of Seraphim as well as a LIMITED POSTCARD SET and an ENAMEL BADGE of Dr. Decker’s Rorschach-style art by Clive Barker!

The cover will feature the TIM WHITE artwork that graced the cover of the Fontana/Collins book CLIVE BARKER’S NIGHTBREED: THE MAKING OF THE FILM, as you can see in this post’s header. Here’s a picture of the DECKER pin:

Look at this Fantastic Decker Pin! Look at it.

The kicker? This Blu-Ray will be REGION FREE. So everyone out there, around the world that wants to get a copy of the CABAL CUT will finally be able to watch it regardless of what Region they’re living in. You asked for it, and THEY LISTENED!

So, this is it for now, stay tuned for more updates about the definitive cover for this release, final list of features and price!

^ Steelbook The Thing'stä tilattu.

Tietenkin toinen juttu on toimittaako zavvi koskaan tilausta? Eilen Arrow ilmoitti tälläistä. Eli onko The Thing saatavilla edelleen, kun sivut alkavat toimimaan?

Thing-debattia odotellessa. Melkoista tyhjänjauhantaa ollut ainakin Argento-julkkien osalta. Varmasti upea julkaisu taas tulossa tuosta Limitedistä.

Arrow sentään älysi rahas..panostaa tuohon The Thing'in teräskirjaan, vaikka esim. bookletista ei hämmästyttavää kyllä mainita sanallakaan.

Edit. Thing'stä ilmestynee normikotelopainos näiden kahden kädenväännön jälkeen.

Edit 2.

Code Red Releasing

Ronin Flix will also be selling Code Red's GHOSTKEEPER (1981) on Blu!

"A trio of friends on a snowmobiling trip in the Canadian Rockies become lost after venturing up a trail during a snowstorm. They stumble upon a seemingly abandoned hotel lodge and decide to spend the night, unaware of the grave danger that they have put themselves in. Who, or what, is the Ghostkeeper, and will anyone survive the night?"

Shot in the rugged location of Lake Louise, Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada, the film's stark, icy photography, low-key style, and slow-burn sense of dread all add up to a uniquely creepy experience in an old snowbound lodge. Poorly distributed on home video as a secondary title in the 1980's (the U.K. VHS distributor placed a demonic chicken on the box art!), the film has since garnered a large genre fan base over the years and has been voted one of the most anticipated Canadian horror films. GHOSTKEEPER is finally unleashed on Blu-ray to chill new and old audiences alike.
