Mukavaa nähdä, että vanhoja suomalaisia elokuvia julkaistaan sinisäteellä.

"For those of us horror and cult cinema enthusiasts who came of age in the 1980s, the Vestron Video brand was mythical. It still is, with VHS collectors always on the lookout for rare titles to add to their antiquated stash."

"Among the myriad amazing international films distributed (and in some cases, financed) by the sadly long defunct Vestron was strange cinema legend Jackie Kong's crazed, barf-tastic 1987 splatter comedy Blood Diner (read our recent words about the film here), a movie designed to honor the groundbreaking gore films of H.G. Lewis and a picture that is the holy grail for many '80s genre aficionados. But many of the revered titles Blood Diner included in the Vestron library have sort of gone missing, with fans hungering for proper releases of these amazing pictures."

"Now, Lionsgate is primed to sate that starvation with their astounding Vestron Video Collector's Series, a line of classic genre films newly remastered for Blu-ray release and armed with a wealth of mind-melting supplementary features. And theyre starting the party with Blood Diner (which was released via Vestron's scrappier sister label Lightning Pictures in '87)! Jackie Kong on Blu-ray! Finally! Hallelujah! Praise Sheetar!"

"And, like all future Vestron Video Collectors Series titles will be available for a limited time only."

"Related: Jackie Kong revives Blood Diner with a mind-bending screening party tour."

"Each limited-edition feature, transferred from the original film elements to high-definition Blu-ray, is packed with special features including brand-new audio commentaries, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and interviews with cast & crew."

"And best of all, Kong who, throughout her career has been notoriously press-shy and elusive has rolled up her sleeves and was personally involved in almost every aspect of this new release."

Says Jackie: "I supervised the mastering of the Blu-ray with the DP, so it looks incredible and has the intended color timing and exposures as the theatrical print release."

"This one is truly a gift for the fans in every respect."

Special Effects

"From the writer & director of It's Alive, Larry Cohen's Special Effects casts a satirical eye on Hollywood, viewed through the prism of the horror film genre. When the fresh-faced Oklahoma country boy Keefe (Brad Rijn, Smithereens) comes looking for his wife Mary Jean (Zoe Tamerlis, Ms .45), a wannabe actress, he soon discovers the seamy side of Tinsel Town when Mary Jean is found dead and he's the prime suspect. With a few swipes at Hollywood archetypes (Eric Bogosian as Christopher Neville, a once-revered Wunderkind director; Zoe Tamerlis as Mary Jean look-alike, Elaine, a budding actress who isn't beyond manipulating the situation for her own benefit), Special Effects offers chills, thrills, shrieks, and a few laughs along the way. Written and directed by Larry Cohen, Special Effects also stars Kevin O'Connor (Let's Scare Jessica to Death) and Richard Greene (TV's Mad Men) in supporting roles."

THE AMITYVILLE HORROR: Collection

"Blood drips from the walls. A terrifying chill permeates through the rooms. Menacing eyes glow from the upstairs window and inside this charming Long Island home, an unspeakable evil lurks the halls, waiting to torment all who dare enter. Experience the ultimate in haunted house film trilogy and delve deeper into the history of the films with vintage special features and all-new extras in a deluxe collector's boxed set."

The Amityville Horror (1979)

"In the first of a series of Amityville films, George (James Brolin) and Kathy Lutz (Margot Kidder), plus their cute kids, move into a riverfront home in the small town of Amityville. The house is a seemingly tranquil retreat except for one minor detail: The man who lived there prior to the Lutz family brutally killed his wife and children. Even with this knowledge, George and Kathy decide to purchase the house. As they begin unpacking their belongings, strange things start happening to them-odd nightmares, voices in the hall, and a feeling of madness that will drive them to the brink of sanity. It appears that the Lutzes are not alone inside the Amityville house, and whatever else is living with them wants them outor dead!"

Amityville II: The Possession (1982)

"This second installment in the Amityville series is a "prequel" which traces the events leading up to The Amityville Horror. In Amityville II: The Possession, the Montelli family moves into the Amityville house replete with its demonic windows. The family's patriarch, Anthony (Burt Young), is a brutish father with a timid wife, Dolores (Rutanya Alda), two small children, and two teenagers, Patricia (Diane Franklin) and Sonny (Jack Magner). After only a few days in their new home, strange occurrences take root; the cellar produces a nasty amount of flies and feces. Malevolent voices reverberate through the halls. And most disturbing, Sonny begins to have visions of murdering his entire family. The events that follow produce a battle between good and evil that ultimately paves the way to one of the greatest horrors Amityville has ever experienced."

Amityville 3-D a.k.a. Amityville III: The Demon (1983)

"In the third installment of the Amityville Horror series, the terror is not only realit's coming to you in three dimensions! John Baxter (Tony Roberts) is a psychic investigator who spends his time debunking phony so-called "experts" of the occult. John and his wife, Nancy (Tess Harper), are recently separated with a young daughter, Susan (Lori Loughlin). John haphazardly decides to purchase the infamous Amityville house and moves in, unaware of the horrible dangers that lie inside. As John spends more and more time inside the house, he begins to endanger not only himself but also his family, friends and coworkers. It's three times the terror in Amityville 3-D!"

Horror master Wes Craven achieved critical and commercial success with the likes of Scream and A Nightmare on Elm Street – but for many genre fans, the directors seminal 1977 effort The Hills Have Eyes remains his masterpiece.

"We couldnt be more excited about our first new Blu-ray announcement: the 1981 psycho-sexual South Korean horror film SUDDENLY IN THE DARK! This amazing, almost unknown film is full of uncomfortable sexuality, cheap visual effects, creepy dolls, shamanism, butterflies, and murder all set to a searing, original synth score!"

"Contrary to some popular belief, Korean horror didnt start in the late 90s, it had been a staple genre in that country for many decades prior, with the early 1980s being a particularly rich period. Unfortunately, these films remain almost completely unknown outside of the ROK. Just the sort of challenge we love! SUDDENLY IN THE DARK is one of the very best pre-millennial K-Horrors: genuinely frightening and utterly bizarre."

"This will be our next blu release after PRIVATE VICES, we hope to have it out by early October. We are currently hard at work cleaning up the HD master given to us by the Korean Film Archive, so it will look miles better than any of the versions have have been floating around the internet. We're really digging back into our "worldweird" roots with this one, and we hope you'll follow us down! More details to be revealed in the coming weeks, including a brand new promotional trailer that will premiere in the next few days."

Coming late 2016/early 2017: THE FOX WITH A VELVET TAIL!

"Variously known as In the Eye of the Hurricane, Lusty Lovers, El Ojo del huracán, La volpe dalla coda di velluto and Suspicion this 1971 Italian/Spanish giallo is a hugely enjoyable and very stylish addition to the "Murder on the Med" strand of movies originally popularized by Umberto Lenzi and US star Carroll Baker."

"Here, Spanish director José María Forqué – who later made the controversial It's Nothing, Mother, it's Only a Game (released in the US as Beyond Erotica) – brings together a talented and good looking cast, great Côte d'Azur locations, one of the best Spanish cinematographers of the day (Alejandro Ulloa) and a fantastic, lounge style score from Maestro Piccioni to create a twisty, if not twisted, tale of deception and revenge. The director's long career at the more prestigious end of Spanish cinema and the presence of award winning scripter Rafael Azcona – who worked with many top European film makers including Marco Ferreri and Luis García Berlanga – give the film an edge of sophistication alongside its enjoyably devious narrative."

"From its very first seconds, the film has a unique and hard to define atmosphere, almost dreamlike. Everything seems a little out of kilter. It's apt that the French release title of the film was Suspicion, not only for its Hitchcockian wrong echoes but also for the way it suggest that nothing here is to be taken at face value. There are constant doubts about minor details, about characters who seem to emerge, without warning, from the past. We feel, while watching it, as though under the influence of a benign narcotic. Only gradually do we realise what's going on and, as we do, the film builds to a tense and gripping final act, with Rosanna Yanni rising to the occasion as a gold digging harpy. Her obvious pleasure in tormenting poor Analía Gadé is genuinely upsetting to watch."

"The film is like the smooth blue waters of the Mediterranean where it's set. It looks inviting and seductive, the sun glistening off the gentle waves; but just beneath the surface, sharks are swimming, and they're hungry for prey...The cast includes top Spanish diva Analía Gadé, giallo staple Jean Sorel, Kommissar X star Tony Kendall and the lustrous Rosanna Yanni in one of her most memorable roles."

"Expect a brand new 4k scan from the negative and a sparkling blu-ray presentation with original art work from illustrator Justin Coffee."

"From the subterranean depths it crawls! Finally making its long-awaited debut on Blu-ray, director Douglas Cheeks cult 80s favorite C.H.U.D. is the ultimate underground movie experience."

"In downtown Manhattan, a police captains hunt for his missing wife leads to the discovery of a series of mysterious disappearances in the area. Extending his search into the tunnels and sewers below the city streets, it soon becomes clear that something monstrous is lurking in that subterranean world and it wont stay there much longerStarring John Heard (Home Alone) and Christopher Curry (Starship Troopers) alongside an early appearance from John Goodman, C.H.U.D. has justifiably built up a huge cult following in the years since its release in 1984, with one of the most iconic creature designs of the period."

The Initiation Dual Format in UK, Blu-ray in US One of the stronger entries to emerge in the latter days of the slice-and-dice boom.

"HERES TO BEING YOUNG STAYING YOUNG AND DYING YOUNG."

"Marking TV star Daphne Zunigas debut in a leading role, The Initiation ranks amongst the finest of the college-based stalk-and-slash flicks now finally restored in glorious High-Definition!"

"Kellys new sorority has a special initiation ritual in store for her an after-hours break-in of her fathers department store. But what begins as a night of harmless college fun turns sour when, once inside the enormous mall, Kelly and her fellow pledges find themselves locked in for the night with a deadly intruder stalking the corridors.Arriving in 1984, The Initiation might have been late to the slasher party, but, alongside the likes of The House on Sorority Row and The Mutilator, it remains one of the stronger entries to emerge in the latter days of the slice-and-dice boom."

The Driller Killer SteelBook + Amaray Dual Format

None of Abel Ferraras films have quite managed to match the shock, extremity and downright notorious nature of The Driller Killer.

"In a career that has encompassed such controversial classics as Ms. 45, Bad Lieutenant and Welcome to New York, none of Abel Ferraras films have quite managed to match the shock, extremity and downright notorious nature of The Driller Killer."

"Ferrara plays struggling artist Reno, a man pushed to the edge by the economic realities of New York living in the late seventies and the No Wave band practising in the apartment below. His grip on reality soon begins to slip and he takes to stalking the streets with his power tool in search of prey"

Kohtalaisen vaisulta vaikuttaa arrowin marraskuun kattaus mutta ehkä parempi niin koska jos 88 ja code red saavat puskettua julkaisuja ulos niin rahalle ei sijoituskohteita tule puuttumaan. Burning ennakkotilattu ja tuo yllämainittu man from hong kong menee ilman muuta ostoslistalle.

^ Yllätysjulkaisut aina mahdollisia, ja joulukuu harvoin pettää. The Burning teräskirja jo loppuunmyyty mm. Arrow Storessa. Jälleenmyyjillä ja trokareilla oma saldostatuksensa, luonnollisesti. Pekkaa pahemmaksi jääne Driller Killer, jonka steelbookin hankintaa mahdollisesti venyttävillä saattaa ottaa ohraleipä, kuitenkin 1,500 yksikköä pienempi painos.

Lone Wolf and Cub Collection

"Based on the best-selling manga series, the six intensely kinetic Lone Wolf and Cub films elevated chanbara to bloody, new heights. The shogun's executioner, Itto Ogami (Tomisaburo Wakayama), takes to wandering the countryside as an assassin-along with his infant son Daigoro (Akihiro Tomikawa) and an infinitely weaponized perambulator-helping those he encounters while seeking vengeance for his murdered wife. Delivering stylish thrills and a body count that defies belief, Lone Wolf and Cub is beloved for its brilliantly choreographed and unbelievably violent action sequences as well as for its tender depiction of the bonds between parent and child."

BOX SET CONTENT:

Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance "The inaugural film in the Lone Wolf and Cub series immediately thrust Itto Ogami into the ranks of the all-time great samurai movie icons. In this installment, the Shadow Yagyu clan plots to solidify its power by taking Ogami's coveted position of shogun's executioner for its own. The legendary assassin escapes with his infant son, Daigoro, and swears vengeance."

Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart at the River Styx "In this exploitation-cinema classic, which took the action and graphic violence of the Lone Wolf and Cub series to delirious new heights, Itto Ogami and Daigoro continue their quest for vengeance through meifumado, the spiritual way of "demons and damnation," pursued constantly by the Shadow Yagyu clan and the shogun's spies."

Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart to Hades "Unfolding in an idyllic countryside that contrasts sharply with the violence that occurs within it, the third Lone Wolf and Cub film follows Itto Ogami and Daigoro as they continue their journey and stumble upon a crime scene involving a group of lowlife swordsmen from the watari-kashi class."

Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart in Peril "In this distinctly lowbrow entry in the Lone Wolf and Cub series, Itto Ogami is hired by the Owari clan to assassinate a tattooed woman who is killing her enemies and cutting off their topknots. Meanwhile, Daigoro is separated from his father when he follows a pair of traveling street performers outside of town."

Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart in the Land of Demons "Balancing physical action with Buddhist musings on life and death, the most spiritual of the Lone Wolf and Cub films finds Ogami's combat skills put to the test by five different warrior-messengers."

Lone Wolf and Cub: White Heaven in Hell "In the final Lone Wolf and Cub film, star Tomisaburo Wakayama decided to make the sort of wild movie he'd always wanted to: one in which Lone Wolf battles zombies and Daigoro's baby cart zips improbably across an icy landscape on skis."

Tuo kyllä yllätti ja menee samantien hankintaan kunhan ilmestyy. Aikoja sitten myinkin nuo DVD:t parempaa julkaisua odotellessa, kun laatu oli tosiaan aivan järkyttävä. Taisivat olla suoraan VHS:ltä ripattu.

Onhan CC:ltä kyllä tulossa paljon muutakin hienoa loppuvuodesta, mm. Pan's Labyrinth, Chimes at Midnight ja itselle kauan odotettu Kurosawan Dreams.

Tuo kyllä yllätti ja menee samantien hankintaan kunhan ilmestyy.
Criterion ‑julkaisun mahdollisuutta spekuloitiin aktiivisesti jo kauan ennen kuin artisti Paul Pope (Zatoichi box set, jne.) härnäsi piirroksella instagram tilillään. Toivottavasti CR:n mainostama 2K myös lunastaa fanien julkaisulle niin hartaasti asettamat ennakko-odotukset, joiden kompromissittomasta työstöstä lafka on maineensa ansainnut. Viime vuosien painoksiin, kun on pettymyksiäkin mahtunut. Itse olisin tyytyväinen jo siihen, että tämä julkaisu tekisi tarpeettomaksi niin pakkotekstitetyn saksalaisen Rapid Eye Movies ‑julkaisun kuin jenkkien AnimEigo boksinkin, joiden yleisesti hyvin tiedossa olevat ongelmat on kaikkien vertailtavissa.

Edit. Ei vaan lakkaa hämmästyttämästä, varsinkaan 'Lone Wolf' kaltaisten klassikoiden kohdalla, viimeaikainen 2K-buumi. Jo ranskalaisten päätös pitäytyä em. tulevan Predator ‑julkaisun kanssa antoi aihetta naamapalmuun. Samaan aikaan esim. Arrow julkaisee Nico Mastorakis ‑tuotantoa à la Hired To Kill ja The Zero Boys "brand new 4K restoration".
