Disc Two: ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST


For the first time ever the UNCUT VERSION of ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST in HD. Previous releases of ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST have excised a 5 minute sequence from the middle of the movie and only included it as an inferior quality deleted scene. This sequence has now been restored into the movie, transferred from the original 16mm negative, as it was originally released. In addition, previous disc releases have used video generated titles which have now been restored from the original film source. Also a new color correction pass and further restoration have been undertaken, making this the definitive release to date of ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST.

Ilahduttavaa nähdä kuinka hyvin piirroskansitaide jatkaa eloaan nykyisissä blu ray julkaisuissa.

Tämä on kyllä totta. Muutamia kertoja tullut päädyttyä Arrow Filmssin julkaisemiin levyihin juurikin noiden tyylikkäiden piirroskansien takia.

Ennakoisikohan Kindergarten Cop 2 (2016) sitä, että Kindergarten Cop (1990) olisi tulossa blu-raylle?

Olen ollut huomaavinani vanhempien elokuvien ilmaantumisien blu-raylle osuvan silmiinpistävän usein samoihin aikoihin kun elokuvalle valmistuu jatkoa tai uusintaversio. Esimerkiksi Johnny English (2003) julkaistiin teräväpiirtona Suomessa 5. 10. 2011, juuri sopivasti kun Johnny English Reborn (2011) tuli Suomessa teattereihin 14. 10. 2011. Näin julkaisut mainostivat toinen toisiaan.

Having spent the latter half of the eighties trying out new styles of filmmaking Wise Guys knockabout comedy, The Untouchables prestige gangster pic, Casualties of Wars Vietnam movie and The Bonfire of the Vanities satirical misfire Brian De Palma returned to what he knew best, the Hitchcockian psycho-thriller, for Raising Cain.


John Lithgow plays three roles: child psychologist Carter, his evil twin brother Cain, and their Norwegian father, Dr Nix, who likes to experimental on the young. Carters wife is concerned that her husband isnt quite paying their daughter the right kind of attention; shes also having an affair which, upon discovery, threatens to send him into a psychotic rageA relentless blend of murder, multiple personalities, cross-dressing, crazed parents, bizarre dream sequences and stunning cinematic assurance, Raising Cain harks back to those twin masterpieces Psycho and Peeping Tom, but is pure unadulterated De Palma.

HALF MAN HALF ANT ALL TERROR! So says the advertising campaign for Mant!, the latest low-budget schlock-horror classic from cigar-chomping producer Lawrence Woolsey (John Goodman, The Big Lebowski), who more than makes up for his films' lack of production values by festooning them with gimmicks that would turn even William Castle (The Tingler) green with envy. But the most potent gimmick of all is accidental: Woolsey schedules a sneak preview of Mant! in Key West, Florida, in October 1962, unaware that the Cuban missile crisis is about to flare up. Will the threat of genuine nuclear war distract the locals from the movie, or will they find it doubly terrifying? Directed by the legendary Joe Dante (The Burbs), this delightful film isnt just an affectionate love-letter to the sci-fi and horror films that he grew up with in the 1950s and 60s, its also a witty and intelligent exploration of the way that the most successful genre films worked by preying on the very real fears of their audiences about everything from Soviet satellite launches to atomic mutation.

U.S. label Mondo Macabro has confirmed that its upcoming Blu-ray release of Miklos Jancso's film Private Vices, Public Virtues will be available for purchase in September. A limited edition of the same release, with an exclusive slipcover and booklet, will be available for purchase in July. Also included with this announcement is the new cover for the upcoming standard Blu-ray release.


"Miklos Jancso (1921-2014) was one of the giants of European art cinema. He had been making films in his native Hungary since 1958, but in 1966 he exploded onto the world scene at Cannes with THE ROUND UP. The international critics had never seen anything like it. Combining cinematography with choreography, Jancso films crowds of soldiers on horseback, peasants, and partisans as they perform a ritualistic dance of love, life and death on the bleak Hungarian plains. Ostensibly a costume piece about the 1848 revolt against the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the film was widely interpreted as a thinly veiled attack on the aborted 1956 Hungarian uprising against Soviet Russia."


"Over his next five features he developed and refined a hypnotic and fluid technique via long, sweeping camera moves and crane shots. Filming in color, his productions became like dazzling "happenings", combining music, dance, naked bodies, horses, men in uniform and spontaneous bursts of singing into a seemingly eternal tracking shot. His films were widely screened at festivals and in art house cinemas. His was a name to drop, an influence to quote."


"Then, in the early 1970s, Jancso moved to Italy and began working with new collaborators. Times were changing. It was a post-1968 world and a new explicitness was being seen onscreen, coupled with a certain sense of betrayal about the ideals that had seemed so achievable only a few years before. PRIVATE VICES PUBLIC VIRTUES, made in 1975, reflected both these factors."

"The story is based on the famous Mayerling incident where Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria was found dead beside his 17 year old lover in an apparent joint suicide. However as with his earlier productions, the director only used history as a jumping off point. The film is pure Jancso. The long tracking shots are there, the horses are there, the naked bodies are there, as are the snatches of folk music and group singing. The main difference between this film and his more acclaimed earlier works is that it features a host of increasingly bizarre sexual incidents. When it screened as an official entry in the 1976 Cannes Festival and viewers caught on to some of the shocking things that it contained ... well, let's just say that it caused a scandal and in some ways Jancso's reputation never recovered. Like Borowczyk before him, he was almost written off as a one time great film maker who had strayed too far into porn and lost his artistic mojo."


"In fact PRIVATE VICES PUBLIC VIRTUES now plays like an overlooked masterpiece. There really is nothing like it in world cinema. The controversy long behind us, we can see that this is one of those rare erotic productions where the point of the film lies in its excess. There's nothing gratuitous about it. Known in Germany as THE BIG ORGY (Die Grosse Orgie), this amazing piece of subversive 70s cinema has never been well treated on home video – pirated, cut and generally not given the respect it deserves.
