Tulevat Blu-ray -julkaisut

Shout Factory tulee ilmeisesti julkaisemaan Uncut version Death Wish II.

Pray for Death).

Neon Maniac 14.1.2016 12:55

NSM Records:in kuvanlaatu on sanalla sanoen

upea, ja samalla edustavimpia blu-ray painoksia joita pikkubudjetin kasariklassikoista on levitetty. Alkuperäinen filmirae on lähes koskematon! Villi veikkaukseni on, että SF onnistuu jollain tapaa ujuttamaan DNR'ää joukkoon, esimerkkejähän tästä löytyy ko. lafkan useista julkaisuista. Toivon, että olen väärässä. Caps-o-holic:in vertailua odotellessa.

"Director Abel Gance was worried that the film's finale wouldn't have the proper impact by being confined to a small screen. He thought of expanding the frame by using three cameras next to each other. For the first time, cinema utilized a rectangular image (with an approximate 4.00:1 aspect ratio). This is probably the most famous of the film's several innovative techniques. Though American filmmakers began experimenting with 70mm widescreen in 1929, widescreen didn't take off until CinemaScope was invented in 1953."(Lähde IMDB)

"Mondo Macabro have revealed that they will add to their Blu-ray catalog José Ramón Larraz's film Symptoms (1974), starring Angela Pleasence, Peter Vaughan, and Lorna Heilbron. The release is expected to be available for purchase later this spring. For years only viewable as a blurry bootleg derived from an early 80s British TV broadcast, this haunting thriller can now be seen as it was intended with a brand new HD transfer of the recently discovered negatives. It's taken us more than 15 years of searching and negotiating to get here, but with the indispensable assistance of the BFI Mondo Macabro can finally bring this film to the world on Blu-ray and DVD."

"Symptoms is an intense and claustrophobic study of a woman's descent into madness and murder. Made in the same years as Larraz's better known Vampyres with much of the same crew and a similar vibe, Symptoms is more atmospheric and ambiguous, and less exploitative. But it casts a powerful spell and is perhaps the most potent example of director Jose Larraz's unique style."

"Starring Angela Pleasance (From Beyond the Grave) in what is probably her best ever role, Symptoms is a film whose time has finally come. After premiering at the 1974 Cannes Film Festival as the official UK entry and a brief theatrical run, the film sank into almost complete obscurity until being rescued from oblivion by books like Tohill and Tombs' Immoral Tales and the ever-diligent video underground. With this stunning new Blu ray release Symptoms can now be seen as the masterpiece of 70s horror that it truly is."

Special Features:

The retail version of this release will be preceded by a limited, numbered version (500 copies only) with exclusive extras, only available through MondoMacabro.BigCartel.com. In the United Kingdom, the British Film Institute plans to have the film on Blu-ray on April 18 as part of its Flipside collection. Technical details and supplemental features for this upcoming release have not yet been revealed.

Pray for Death (1985) Arrow Blu-Ray

Arvostelua pukkaa:

"Pray for Death arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of Arrow Video U.S. with a wonderful new transfer that looks fantastic. Genre films of this sort are typically left to rot on DVD or VHS with haphazard early transfers. "

"Unfortunately, the source for the excised moments of unrated violence is very poor. Every scene of added violence from the unrated cut suffers from a severe drop in image and sound quality."

Eli luultavasti sama kuvanlaatu/ääni kuin kuin saksalaisessa Mediabook julkaisussa. NEW UK/US TITLE: Hired to Kill (Arrow Video) Dual Format Blu-ray & DVDAn essential slice of 90s action fare starring Oliver Reed.

UK Release Date: 16th May 2016

US Release Date: 17th May2016

NO MAN ON EARTH COULD GET HIM OUT OF PRISON ALIVE. SEVEN WOMEN WILL TRY.

"Starring legendary actors Oliver Reed (Gladiator, The Brood) and George Kennedy (The Delta Force and The Naked Gun series), Hired to Kill is an essential slice of 90s action fare featuring guns, girls and a plethora of budget-busting explosions for good measure."

"Action movie staple Brian Thompson (whose brief turn in 1984s The Terminator led to a starring role in the 1986 Sylvester Stallone vehicle Cobra) stars as Frank Ryan, a mercenary sent to track down a rebel leader in hostile territory. Posing as a fashion designer, he wont be going it alone, as hell be aided by seven beautiful but deadly female fighters."

"Whilst the opportunity to see Oliver Reed chewing up the scenery behind an elaborate moustache merits the price of the admission alone, Hired to Kill is also noteworthy as being co-directed by Nico Mastorakis the man behind such cult favourites as Island of Death and The Zero Boys."

Blood Bath

"The films of Roger Corman are often as well-known for their behind-the-scenes stories as they are the ones unfolding on the screen. He famously made Little Shop of Horrors in just two days using sets left over from A Bucket of Blood and shot The Terror over a long weekend because bad weather prevented him from playing tennis. But none of these tales is quite so complex, or quite so extraordinary, as the making of Blood Bath."

"The saga began when Corman invested in a Yugoslavian Krimi-like picture entitled Operation Titian just prior to it going into production. Insisting it be filmed in English, he sent actors William Campbell and Patrick Magee, and uncredited story editor Francis Ford Coppola (all fresh from Dementia 13), to Dubrovnik to make a US-friendly movie but wasn't satisfied with the end results. First it was re-cut and re-scored to create Portrait in Terror, a film more in line with drive-in tastes, then it was handed over to Jack Hill (Spider Baby), followed by Stephanie Rothman (Terminal Island), each undertaking reshoots that resulted in a vampire picture by the name of Blood Bath. One final twist was provided when a TV version was required, chopping scenes and adding others to create Track of the Vampire."

"For this release Arrow Video has searched through the vaults to bring you all four versions of Blood Bath, newly restored from the best materials available to provide a definitive release of one of Corman's craziest ventures."

Täällä positiivisempi arvostelu:

"The unrated version is presented here as the default viewing choice, culled from the same nice master with what appears to be a little bit of additional clean up work and very high bit rate (just a notch above the already robust one on the German disc. Optional English subtitles are provided for the DTS-HD MA English audio, which sounds clear as a bell."

Toivottavasti Unrated kohtausten ääniin oltaisiin saatu jotakin parannusta Mediabook julkaisuun nähden (äänet=tynnyrissä olisi puhuttu).

Third Window Films have confirmed that they will add to their Blu-ray catalog two more from Takeshi KitanoA Scene at the Sea (1991), starring Claude Maki, Hiroko Ôshima, and Sabu Kawahara, and Kids Return (1996), starring Ken Kaneko, Masanobu Andô, and Leo Morimoto. The two releases are expected to arrive on the market in May.

Kids Return

"Masaru and Shinji are two high school juvenile delinquents who spend their time extorting classmates for small change. After Masaru is beaten up by a former victim, the pair go to a local gym to learn how to box. Shinji, however, proves to have much more innate talent than Masaru, who abandons the sport to join the local yakuza gang. After Masaru's departure, Shinji falls in with Hayashi, an older boxer whose unhealthy influence pulls the youth down. Meanwhile, Masaru's arrogant behavior is getting him into trouble with his gang. Eventually, the two friends' downward spirals of life meet again at their old school."

"Kids Return was the first film from acclaimed Japanese director Takeshi Kitano (Sonatine, Hana-Bi) following his near-fatal motorcycle accident in 1994. Kitano was to undergo a long and painful physical rehabilitation, and Kids Return reflects his struggle in the question at its heart: Which is more difficult, to die or to go on living? Featuring a beautiful music score by Joe Hisaishi (Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service, Sonatine), Kids Return is a minimalist masterpiece filled with irony and melancholy."

A Scene at the Sea

"Shigeru is a deaf-mute teenager who works as a garbage collector. When he happens upon a battered surfboard, it plants in him the dream of becoming a surfing champion. He also meets Takako, a young deaf-mute woman who becomes his girlfriend and lends him her constant support during the difficult practice sessions and competitions. Throughout the summer, their profound expression of love transcends their silence."

"This lyrical masterpiece from acclaimed Japanese actor and director Takeshi Kitano (Kids Return, Sonatine, Hana-Bi) reminds us that images are often as powerful as words. A heartbreakingly romantic departure from Kitano's usual subject matter of gangs and criminals, A Scene at The Sea also features a beautiful music score by Joe Hisaishi (Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service, Sonatine)."

Higgens (He Walked by Night) with beautiful black-and-white cinematography by Gordon Avil (The Champ)."

While seeking cover, Nick meets Peggy Dobbs (Shelley Winters, Lolita), a lonely young girl who takes Nick to her family s apartment, while there the paranoid thief decides to take the family hostage until he can escape. This was the great John Garfield s final film, he died less than a year later at age thirty-nine from heart complications as accusations of his involvement with the Communist Party and his refusal to name names before the HUAC led to his blacklisting in Hollywood During the film s initial run, director John Berry (Tension) and screenwriters Dalton Trumbo (Lonely are the Brave) and Hugo Butler (The Southerner) were un-credited due to Hollywood blacklisting during the Red Scare. Stunning black-and-white cinematography by the legendary James Wong Howe (Hud)."

Storm Fear

"Storm Fear is a classic film noir starring, produced and directed by Cornel Wilde (The Naked Prey) as a wounded bank robber, Charlie Blake hiding out with his gang at his brother, Fred (Dan Duryea, Scarlet Street) and sister-in-law, Elizabeth s (Jean Wallace, No Blade of Grass) farmhouse during a snowstorm. One sleepless night, Cheryl Draper (Barbara Stanwyck, Double Indemnity) witnesses a young woman being strangled to death in an apartment across the street. She reports the killing to the police, but when the police arrive there's no body to be found. The policemen are convinced that Cheryl probably dreamt the murder and leave ignoring her pleas. Similar to Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window, which opened less than a month later and overshadowed this top-notch film noir featuring great direction by Roy Rowland (The Girl Hunters) and beautiful black-and-white cinematography by legendary John Alton (He Walked by Night). Co-starring George Sanders (A Shot in the Dark) and Gary Merrill (All About Eve)."

Abel Gancen upein elokuva elikkäs Napoleon (1927) tulee Blu-raylle ja DVD:lle koko komeudessaan. Unohtakaa vanhat Coppola-versiot ja heittäytykää Brownlown version loisteliaaseen maailmaan.

Kiitti vinkistä! Tätä odotan suurella mielenkiinnolla

Mielenkiinnolla odotellaan täälläkin ja toinen kiintoisa seikka on se miten elokuvan lopetus saadaan toimimaan blu-rayllä:

"Director Abel Gance was worried that the film's finale wouldn't have the proper impact by being confined to a small screen. He thought of expanding the frame by using three cameras next to each other. For the first time, cinema utilized a rectangular image (with an approximate 4.00:1 aspect ratio). This is probably the most famous of the film's several innovative techniques. Though American filmmakers began experimenting with 70mm widescreen in 1929, widescreen didn't take off until CinemaScope was invented in 1953."(Lähde IMDB)

Toimivuusefekti on tosin aika vaisu kolmelta kankaalta nähtyyn verrattuna. Jos tästä jotain positiivista hakee, niin kovin harvan tarvitsee enää tuijottaa tuota jostain 21" telkkarista kuten itse tein kun näin Napoleonin ensimmäistä kertaa joskus 1990-luvun lopulla.

MUTANT is coming to Blu-ray from Code Red, in a deluxe 4K scan from the 35mm negatives! No word on a definitive release date or special features.

MutantBR.jpg

MONSTER DOG: "The film stars Alice Cooper, who at this point was trying to re-invent himself and stay relevant, as a rocker named Vince Raven who runs afoul of a massive, toothy demonic hound (and a lot of smaller, less demonic mutts) that hampers his attempts to film his latest music video. Kino Lorber will do their part to make MONSTER DOG look prettier than its ever looked when they release the film on Blu-ray and DVD on March 15th. The disc includes a single special feature, a doc on the making of MONSTER DOG called "Lord of the Dogs"."

"Scream Factory continues to release titles from the AIP vaults, 1971's MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE and 1970's THE DUNWICH HORROR, coming to Blu-ray on March 29th."

"MURDERS is directed by CRY OF THE BANSHEE's Gordon Hessler and, like that film, AIP had cut the film upon release. And like their release of that film on THE VINCENT PRICE COLLECTION III, this version of RUE MORGUE is the full director's cut. In it, Jason Robards and Eurohorror favorite Herbert Lom chew scenery when a Grand Guignol theater in Paris falls prey to an axe wielding lunatic during the staging of Poe's famous tale."

THE DUNWICH HORROR was one of the few films directed by Roger Corman's favorite art director, the brilliant Daniel Haller (DIE MONSTER DIE), who faithfully adapts Lovecraft's story of witchery in New England and gives us a great performance by Dean Stockwell (BLUE VELVET) and Wilbur Whateley, professional necromancer. Sandra Dee also stars in this wild flick, which was produced by Corman."
