Huhtikuussa: maailman kovin Sonny Chiba ‑leffa Wolfguy, jonka itse näin teatterissa kolmeen kertaan... samana päivänä!
wolfguy.png
Synopsis:

Shinichi "Sonny" Chiba is a martial arts "manimal" in the ultra-70's, 100% bizarre mixture of horror, action and sci-fi that is Wolf Guy, one of the rarest and most sought-after cult films produced by Japan's Toei Studio. Based on a manga by Kazumasa Hirai (creator of 8 Man), and never before released outside of Japan, it's a genre film classic waiting to be discovered and a completely unclassifiable trip into phantasmagoric funk.

Chiba stars as Akira Inugami, the only survivor of a clan of ancient werewolves who relies on his supernatural powers to solve mysterious crimes. After a series of bloody killings perpetrated by an unseen force, Inugami uncovers a conspiracy involving a murdered cabaret singer, corrupt politicians, and a plot by the J-CIA to harvest his blood in order to steal his lycanthropic powers! At the same time, Inugami also discovers the truth behind his family heritage, and that he may not be the last of his kind.

Directed by B-movie genius Kazuhiko Yamaguchi (Sister Streetfighter, Wandering Ginza Butterfly, Karate Bear Fighter), Wolf Guy truly is one-of-a-kind, with Chiba in full effect as the part-man, part-wolf, all-karate action hero and a collection of familiar 1970's Toei actors in support. Violence, action, nudity, real surgical footage, and a psychedelic musical score all work together to create an unforgettable trip to the heights of Japanese cinematic weirdness.

Toukokuussa: Fukasakun keskeinen (ja parempi kuin Battles w/o Honor and Humanity) Cops vs. Thugs

cops.png

Synopsis:

Considered by many to be director Kinji Fukasaku's greatest single-film achievement in the yakuza genre, Cops vs Thugs was made at the height of popularity of Toei Studios' jitsuroku boom: realistic, modern crime movies based on true stories taken from contemporary headlines. Returning to the screen after completing their Battles Without Honor and Humanity series together, Fukasaku joined forces once again with screenwriter Kazuo Kasahara, composer Toshiaki Tsushima and star Bunta Sugawara to create one of the crowning achievements of his career, and a hard-boiled classic which is still ranked as one of the best Japanese films of the 1970's.

It's 1963 in the southern Japanese city of Kurashima, and tough-as-nails detective Kuno (Sugawara) oversees a detente between the warring Kawade and Ohara gangs. Best friends with Ohara lieutenant Hirotani (Hiroki Matsukata), he understands that there are no clear lines in the underworld, and that everything is colored a different shade of gray. But when random violence interrupts the peace and an ambitious, by-the-books lieutenant (Tatsuo Umemiya) comes to town, Kuno's fragile alliance begins to crumble. Greedy bosses and politicians alike seize the opportunity to wipe out their enemies, and Kuno faces the painful choice of pledging allegiance to his badge and keeping a promise to his brother.

Echoing the great crime films of Sidney Lumet and Jean-Pierre Melville, in Fukasaku's world, there's no honor among thieves or lawmen alike, and the only thing that matters is personal honor and duty among friends. Kasahara's shattering screenplay and Fukasaku's dynamic direction support an all-star, ensemble cast to create one of the most exciting, and deeply moving films about cops and criminals ever made.

Doberman Cop

dobe.jpg

Never before released on video outside of Japan, Doberman Cop is a unique entry in the career of director Kinji Fukasaku.

Pre-order your copy in the UK: http://bit.ly/2nNbK9r

North American pre-orders links should be live soon!

Release Dates: 26/27 June

Released just as the popularity of yakuza movies was waning in Japan, and as the country's film industry was undergoing some fundamental shifts, Doberman Cop is a unique entry in the career of director Kinji Fukasaku (Battles Without Honor and Humanity, Cops vs Thugs), and reunited him with star Shinichi "Sonny" Chiba (The Street Fighter, Wolf Guy) in an American-style crime movie that mixes gunplay and pulp fiction with martial arts and lowbrow comedy to create one of their most entertaining films.

Based on a popular manga by "Buronson" (creator of Fist of the North Star), Doberman Cop follows the fish-out-of-water adventures of Joji Kano (Chiba), a tough-as-nails police officer from Okinawa who arrives in Tokyo's Kabuki-cho nightlife district to investigate the savage murder and mutilation of an island girl who had been working as a prostitute. Initially dismissed as a country bumpkin (complete with straw hat and live pig in tow!), Kano soon proves himself a more savvy detective than the local cops, and a tougher customer than anyone expected. As he probes deeper into the sleazy world of flesh-peddling, talent agency corruption and mob influence, Kano uncovers the shocking truth about the girl, her connection to a yakuza-turned-music manager (Hiroki Matsukata), and a savage serial killer who is burning women alive.

Made to appeal both to the youth market with its biker gangs and popular music, as well as to old-time yakuza movie fans, Doberman Cop is an surprising oddity in Fukasaku's career, his sole film adapted directly from a manga and never before released on video outside of Japan. Featuring Chiba at his charismatic best — channeling a Japanese Dirty Harry while doing all his own stunts — and Fukasaku at his most fun, deftly showcasing the combined talents of his "Piranha Army" stock company of actors and other regular players — Doberman Cop is a classic action comedy and a missing link in 1970's Japanese cinema deserving of rediscovery.

Doberman Copin ja Wolfguyn arvostelut tulossa elitistin Sonny Chiba artikkelisarjan osiin 4 ja 6.

Neon Maniac 18.3.2017 20:00

Wolfguy tuli tilattua jo heti julkistuksen yhteydessä. Kulttuuriteko Arrow:lta. Doberman Cop on tuiki tuntematon allekirjoittaneelle, mikä hävettää aivan vietävästä. Sentään Fukasaku kyseessä. Osaltaan taas osoittaa vain sen tosiasan, kuinka paljon japanilaisissa elokuvissa on yhä näkemätöntä materiaalia. Arvosteluja Elitistiin odotellessa..

NEW ANNOUNCEMENT!

"Slasher cinema is all too often seen as a mainstay of the 1980s but the fact is that, come the turn of a new decade, plenty of fresh teen-kill titles were being produced and few are more ferocious than HAPPY HELL NIGHT! One of the trendsetting terror titles in bridging the gap between the grindhouse excess of the eighties and the VHS-era insanity of the early nineties, HAPPY HELL NIGHT is a fright-flick that has the cinematic quality of a highbrow hack and stab slice and dicer and the fast-paced sex 'n' violence sensibility of a video cassette cut 'em up."

"Released in 1992 to appreciative audiences who believed the bloodshed of the FRIDAY THE 13TH era had long since passed, this is a claustrophobic tale of supernatural stabbings in an old deserted asylum – and when some youngsters begin bothering this dusty place of the past they are understandably upset to find out that it houses a hysterical lunatic that does not intend to retire his limb-lopping ambitions anytime soon! Rarely seen in a quality deserving of its colourful carnage, and featuring the thespian talents of Sam Rockwell (MOON/ IRON MAN 2), HAPPY HELL NIGHT has finally been unleashed in the UK from 88 Films in a plasma-perfect HD restoration!"

JUST BEFORE DAWN (1981)

"Beloved cult filmmaker Jeff Lieberman already horrified audiences across the world with his killer-worm epic SQUIRM (1976) but he arguably outdid himself with JUST BEFORE DAWN (1981) one of the most popular slasher classics to ever tear up the inside of a grindhouse movie theatre."

"In this powerful bout of plasma splashing cinema, a group of teenage vacationers opt for an ill-advised hike around the beautiful national forests of Oregon. But Lieberman is quick to show that backwoods baddies do not just exist in the American South – they can also be found preying on campers in the supposedly more liberal (and safe) West Coast too!! With machete massacres galore, masked maniacs on the prowl and plenty of skinny dipping and flesh ripping to enjoy, JUST BEFORE DAWN is a horror masterpiece that is finally available in the UK, fully remastered in HD. Starring George Kennedy (THE NAKED GUN) and Chris Lemmon (WISHMASTER), 88 Films is proud to present one of the most sublime and stylish slice and dice creepers ever concocted!"

^Tuo Slayerhan oli 88filmin aprillipila, varoituksena ettei kukaan voorumilainen ala odottamaan julkaisua...

Neon Maniac 3.4.2017 14:54

^ Näin on, ja samalla hyvä sauma laittaa kusetus kierrätykseen niin näkee onko foorumilaiset oikeasti hereillä. Code Red tosin on julkaisemassa leffan kuluvan vuoden aikana kuten yleisesti hyvin tiedossa. Editoidaan piakkoin.

olutsika 3.4.2017 15:21

^code redit tulevat valitettavan kalliiksi tänne pohjolan perukoille tilata. No, jos bill(huom tarkoituksella pieni alkukirjan) saa ulostettua Giallo In Venicen niin siitä maksettava $ koska Saksan julkaisut menivät molemmat ohi.

Neon Maniac 3.4.2017 15:53

CR:llä kuten SR:llä on toki paikoin hyvät suhteet tekijöihin, mikä toisinaan varmistaa eksklusiiviset lisämateriaalit julkaisuihin, tosin lähes poikkeuksetta vain muutaman minuutin mittaisina. Julkaisukatalogi, kuten usein on tullut mainittua, on marginaalituotantojen julkaisijoitten joukossa vähintäänkin mielenkiintoinen, mutta kokonaisuutena usein varsin leväperäisesti tuotettu, josta (markkinoille) heijastuvaa epävarmuutta yritetään paikkailla tuulettamalla teknisiä ominaisuuksia paremmiksi kuin millaisiksi käytännössä lopulta osoittautuvat. Viimeisimpänä useamman julkaisun yhteydessä hypetetty "laajennettu värimäärittely".

Edit. CR:in blu-ray kritiikin kevennykseksi pieni muistutus myös lafkan aiemmista dvd-julkaisuista, joista jotain kertoo tämä(kin) esimerkki.
olutsika 4.4.2017 13:07

Harmi ettei code red(kään) saanut Deliriumiin italia audiota.

Tuota ebay juttua en tiennytkään, aika veijari wow

Tuskinpa on varaa ostaa globaaleja julkaisuoikeuksia.
Neon Maniac 5.4.2017 02:22

^ Vaikea sanoa mikä loppujen lopuksi muodostaa sen ylitsepääsemättömimmän yhtälön yhtiövastaavan agendassa, vaikka fakta koskien kustannuksia tietty näytelleekin suurta roolia asiaa täältä käsin spekuloitaessa. Code Red'ejä, kuten useimpia muitakin marginaalijulkaisuja, on toki saatavissa maltillisilla rahtikuluilla yksittäisiltä logistiikkakumppaneilta, joiden varastoeristä hyötyvillä on pitkällä juoksulla usein realistisempi ostovolyymi konkreettisemmin ulottuvilla, kuin vaikkapa vain tiettyjen tahojen satunnaisia salama-aleja väijyvillä. Reilumman kauppahengen yksittäisesimerkkinä suhteessa moneen kanssakilpailijaan mainittakoon jo pitkälti kolmatta vuosikymmentä kuvioissa vaikuttanut Screen Archive Entertainment, joka pukkaa ulos mm. Twilight Time ‑julkaisut, ja jolle Olsen on myöntänyt jälleenmyyntiluvan kansainvälisesti joittenkin Code Red ‑julkaisujen osalta myös yksinoikeudella. Vastakohtana tälle voi nähdä ainakin Diabolikdvd'n nykyisellään, jonka kautta tilattaessa postikulut puhkoo keuhkot paksummankin lompakon omistajalta.
