Miksi tuntuu kuin olisin katsonut erinäisiä Guy Maddinin ohjauksia Jyväskylän Kesässä ja Rakkautta & Anarkiaa ‑festareilla? No, hyvä että Maddin esitellään vihdoin sillekin suomalaisyleisölle, joka ei seuraa muita elokuvatapahtumia kuin Sodankylää.

Maddinin loistava lyhäri

Heart of the World näytettiin pari vuotta sitten Sodiksessakin. Hävettää myöntää, mutta luulin tuota ensin aidoksi neuvostomykkikseksi...

Onko kukaan muuten lähdössä tuonne pohjoiseen? Ja jos joku on käynyt, niin millainen se paljon puhuttu fiilis paikanperällä on? Itse olen jo muutaman kesän haikaillut, mutta lähtö on aina estynyt... ehkä tänä kesänä?

Sodankylässä on tällainen italialainen porukka:

"We leave from Bologna at the end of May. Two campers and a truck. Our destination is the Midnight Sun Festival in Finland. To get there on time, we’ll have to drive for nearly 3.000 km in a fortnight. The festival lasts a week. Our small carovan is a sort of Cine-Circus that brings to mind those small vans that during the 70s were bringing the movies in the Emilia Romagna province and in many other regions. In the van there will be a generator for electricity, a videoprojector, a screen, a stove and a camping oven, chairs for the public, lights for village feasts and a big tent. The small circus is organized by Bernardo Bolognesi, Michele Cogo, Michele Mellara, Francesco Merini, Pierpaolo Ravaglia, Fabian Ribezzo, Alessandro Rossi, Dario Zanasi. The carovan will drive through Slovenia, the Slovac Republic, the Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia all the way to Helsinki and then the last 800 km up to Sodankyla on the border of the Polar Arctic Circle. Along the way, the carovan will stop in all Countries along its way that will touch small towns and big cities. The travellers will set up the screen, the projector, the lights, the audio system, chairs, will cook pizza, piadine, sausages and will offer wine. We will "do cinema". We will show a selection of Italian movies (long, short, documentaries and visual experiments) in the piazzas of the small eastern towns. There will be not only our movies. Also other works will help us to show the people we meet, an original and creative selection of our cinema produced in the last few years. With the same spirit we will collect local (and original) audiovisual materials in the countries that we will cross, to bring them back to Italy. It will be a festa each time. A small circus of cinematography. All the way through. Once we’ll reach our destination we will set up a big tent and, close to the festival, but outside the festival, in agreement with the festival and in set times, we will show our movies and some of those collected during the trip. We’ll cook and make a festa. The small circus will have small videocameras and will record everything: true, imagined, dreamed. Along way we’ll start the editing of this documentary or docu-fiction. Finally, in mid-June, after the end of the festival, we will drive back to Italy. Without stops. To bring back in our Country the tale, the movies collected, the documentary produced, and to show these images to anyone who will want to see them. Cine-circo…"

Kävikö joku katsomassa? Tai jos joku näkee näitä Sodankylässä, voisi kertoa. Ollaan kyllä ehkä kutsumassa nämä Soidankylän jälkeen Jyväskylään...

Italialaisten poppoo vaikutti eläväiseltä ja hauskaa teltan ympäristöllä riitti. En itse kaikelta elokuva-ahmimiseltani kerennyt heidän tuotoksiin perehtyä, mutta jos pintapuolisesti luokittelisin niin sanoisin amatöörikokoelmaksi... Viimeisenä aamuna (sikäli kun vuorokauden ajat ovat Sodankylässä tuolloin edes voimassa) La Dolce Vita oli kiva katsoa kylmässä teltassa. Teltan lähistöllä olevalla grillikatoksella tunnelma oli vieläkin korkeammalla...

Maddin oli allekirjoittaneelle aikamoinen pettymys... Kuvakoilla leikkiminen ja turhan runsas valoisuus vei visuaaliselta ilmeeltä pinnoja. Toki myös oli havaittavissa television äärelliset resurssit. Loppuhuipennus oli kuitenkin (kuvallisestikin) positiivinen päätös.

Minusta tuo Maddinin Dracula näytti siltä kuin se olisi kuvattu suurelta osin NTSC-videolle, vaikka lopputeksteissä Super 8 vilahtikin. Siihen nähden visuaalisestikin merkittävä saavutus. Ei silti aivan sitä parasta Maddinia, vaikka kyllähän tuo vallan viihdytti.
