Tappavat elokuvat

Eli elokuvia, joiden tekoprosessi on vienyt tekijöidensä hengen. Ei siis varsinaisesti sellaisia tapauksia joissa Oliver Reed koki luonnollisen kuoleman kesken Gladiaattorin filmauksen (ellei joku pysty argumentoimaan, että jonkun mutkan kautta juuri Gladiaattorin filmaus vei Reedin hautaan – paskaa viinaa paikallisessa ravintolassa, ym.), vaan ihan selviä kuolemaan johtaneita onnettomuuksia kuvauksissa.

20-luvun Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ on yksi varhaisimmista suurista elokuvista, jossa stuntmies kuoli hevoskilpailukohtauksen kuvauksissa. Mykkäkauden spektaakkeleissa taisi olla muitakin vastaavia tapauksia, joissa sijaisnäyttelijöiden henki ei ollut minkään arvoinen.



Crow (1994) kuuluu tietenkin mainita tässä yhteydessä. Brandon Lee ja oikea luoti aseessa. Miten sekin voi olla mahdollista?



Stalker voi olla vähän siinä ja siinä, mutta jos kuvaukset virolaisen voimalan jätevesissä todella tappoi ohjaajan ja kaksi muuta syöpään, niin huhhuh.

During the filming of some sequences from civilian aircraft, longtime Hollywood stunt pilot Art Scholl was killed. A biplane he was flying crashed off the Pacific Coast. The film is dedicated to his memory.



Million Dollar Mystery (1987)

Veteran stuntman Dar Robinson was killed executing a motorcycle stunt for this movie. The film is dedicated to him (as was Lethal Weapon (1987), which he completed prior to shooting this).



xXx (2002)

Stunt player Harry O'Connor was killed when he hit a pillar of the Palacky Bridge in Prague, para-sailing during one of the actions scenes. The accident occured while filming the second take of the stunt; O'Connor's first attempt was completed without incident and can be seen in the completed film.



Not Quite Hollywoodissa mainittiin myös joku stunt-miehen tappanut elokuva, en tosin muista mikä.

No ei se nyt ihan noin yksinkertaista ollut.



"Because the movie's second unit team was running behind schedule, it was decided that expedient dummy cartridges (cartridges that outwardly appear to be functional, but contain no gunpowder or primer) would be made from real cartridges by pulling out the bullet, dumping out the gunpowder and reinserting the bullet. However, the team neglected to consider that the primer was still live and, if fired, could still produce enough force to push the bullet off the end of the cartridge. At some point prior to the fatal scene, the live primer on one of the constructed dummy rounds was discharged by persons unknown while in the pistol's chamber. It caused a squib load, in which the primer provided just enough force to push the bullet out of the cartridge and into the barrel of the revolver, where it became stuck.



The malfunction went unnoticed by the crew, and the same gun was used again later to shoot the death scene, having been re-loaded with low-power black powder blanks. However, the squib load was still lodged in the barrel, and was propelled by the blank cartridge's explosion out of the barrel and into Lee's body. Although the bullet was traveling much slower than a normally fired bullet would be, the bullet's large size and the point-blank firing distance made it powerful enough to fatally wound Lee."

For the film Funk (1976) he invented a new portable 3-D camera. When he was killed in the helicopter accident he was on his way to Paris to meet potential financial backers of the camera, and was holding a test model of his invention.



Film-maker Michael Findlay was killed in a helicopter accident on the roof of the (then) Pan Am Building in New York city. On his way to John F Kennedy airport to connect with a Paris-bound flight, Findlay was planning to demonstrate his new 3-D camera to potential backers in France. Findlay and three other passengers were about to board the helicopter when its landing support collapsed. The helicopter fell onto one side and its spinning rotor blades decapitated Findlay and killed three other passengers. A woman on the street below was also killed when she was hit by a detached rotor blade from the helicopter. (imdb)

Filmed near the site of contemporaneous nuclear testing grounds, the set was contaminated by nuclear fallout. After location shooting, much dirt from the location was transported back to Hollywood in order to match interior shooting done there. Scores of cast and crew members developed forms of cancer over the next two decades, many more than the normal percentage of a random group of this size. Quite a few died from cancer or cancer-related problems, including John Wayne, Susan Hayward, Pedro Armendáriz (who shot himself to death soon after learning he had terminal cancer), Agnes Moorehead, 'Thomas Gomez', John Hoyt and director Dick Powell. People magazine researched the subsequent health of the cast and crew, which it published in November 1980. By the time of the article's publication, 91 of the 220 members of the film's cast and crew had contracted cancer, and half of these had died from the disease. The figures did not include several hundred local American Indians who served as extras on the set. Nor did it include relatives who had visited cast and crew members on the set, such as the Duke's son Michael Wayne. The People article quoted the reaction of a scientist from the Pentagon's Defense Nuclear Agency to the news: "Please, God, don't let us have killed John Wayne".

Lännensankareiden syöpäkuolemiin vaikutti myös se, että lumena käytettiin asbestia.

T2:n kuvauksissa taisi kuolla joku stunttimies? Olisko just siinä kohtaa, missä T1000:tta pelästynyt helikopterin ohjaaja hyppää kopterista.

Tessiä kuvannut Geoffrey Unsworth (mm. 2001, Idän pikajunan arvoitus, Zardoz) kuoli sydäriin kolmen viikon kuvausten jälkeen.

Hieno homma, The Conquerin kuvauksissa oli siis tuplana kuolettavia ainesosia. Laskematta siis "normaaleja" tupakan lisäämiä syöpämahdollisuuksia.



En kuvahaulla yhtäkkiä löytänyt sitä kuvaa Waynesta geiger-mittari kädessä, mutta Howard Hughesille elokuva oli myöhäisvuosien rasitteita:

Howard Hughes was said to have felt "guilty as hell" about the whole affair, although as far as I can tell it never occurred to anyone to sue him. For various reasons he withdrew The Conqueror from circulation, and for years thereafter the only person who saw it was Hughes himself, who screened it night after night during his paranoid last years.

Catch-22 (1970)

While filming You Only Live Twice (1967), Johnny (Jordan) was leaning out of a helicopter to get a better shot. Another helicopter was caught in a gust of wind and was blown closer. The rotor blade cut Johnny's leg which had to be amputated. Three years later, he was filming Catch-22 (1970) over the Gulf of Mexico when another plane passed close by. He was sucked out of the open doorway and fell 2,000 feet to his death. He had always refused to wear a safety harness and with his artificial leg wasn't as agile as he used to be. (IMDb)

Sirkka Sari (1920-1939) tipahti savupiippuun.

Myös Sarin kolmas ja viimeinen, pääkaupungin toimettomasta yläluokasta kertova elokuva Rikas tyttö (1939) oli Vaalan ohjaama. Sirkka Sarin kolmas elokuva ei ollut vielä aivan valmis, kun hän sai tapaturmaisesti surmansa sunnuntaina heinäkuun 30. päivänä vuonna 1939, kuvausryhmän ollessa juhlimassa hotelli Aulangon ravintolassa Hämeenlinnassa. Kuvauspaikalta Hauholta oli päätetty lähteä Hämeenlinnaan, koska Vaalan ystävä luutnantti Jaakko Sauli oli tullut käymään Helsingistä, ja kuvausryhmä halusi viettää iloisen illan yhdessä vieraan kanssa.



Puolen yön tienoilla Sari poistui seurueesta luutnantti Saulin kanssa. Yhdessä he kiipesivät hotellin katon näköalatasanteelle. Sari erehtyi luulemaan tasanteella ollutta noin nelimetristä koroketta näköalatorniksi. Koroke oli kuitenkin hotellin lämmitysjärjestelmän hormi, mitä ylös kiivennyt Sari ei huomannut ajoissa, vaan putosi hormiin. Sauli kulki sen verran Saria jäljessä, että hän näki onnettomuuden, mutta ei voinut sitä estää. Putoamisen jälkeen Sari saattoi olla vielä hengissä, mutta hän menehtyi vammoihinsa ennen kuin hänet saatiin ulos hormista.



Juttua

Unohdin vallan yhden traagisimmista onnettomuuksista, jonka myötä elokuva maailma menetti yhden lahjakkaimmista automiehistä eli H.B. Halickin. Onnettomuus sattui Gone in 60 Secondsin jatko-osan

kuvauksissa.



Stuntwoman Sonja Davis kuoli Vampire in Brooklynin kuvauksissa. Muistaakseni hän putosi ilmapatjan ohi tai patja oli liian kovaksi täytetty ja hän pomppasi siitä kohtalokkain seurauksin.



Bruce Lee – Game of Death tai minkä niminen siitä alunperin piti tullakaan. Virallisesti kaiketi jokin allerginen reaktio mutta itse uskon salaliittoteoriaan.



Pakko mainita myös elokuvien ulkopuolelta Gary Holton, joka kuoli Auf Wiedersehen, Pet sarjan toisen tuotantokauden aikana. Huumeiden yliannostus. Wayne, olit yksi parhaista ikinä!
