Vielä semmoinen että jos jossain Netflixissä (tai vastaavassa ns. laillisessa palvelussa) on katsottavissa joku sellainen workprint / ohjaajan versio yms. mitä EI OLE julkaistu DVD tai BD muodossa niin TODELLAKIN KUULUU myös tähän topicciin. Erittäin tervetulleesti jopa.

Cobra (1986)

There is uncut,about 2 hour long work print of Cobra. This work print contains many scenes not shown in any other versions. Almost all deaths scenes are longer and much more gorier,some characters have more dialogue or character development scenes(Ingrid's photographer friend,Cobra's partner Gonzalez,detective Monte and some others),action scenes are much longer with more violence and deaths (hospital attack and attack on Cobra's place,car chase,pick-up truck chase and final shootout) some parts of the movie have different music than the one heard in DVD versions.

Cobraa ei ole tullut nähtyä +20 vuoteen, joten sen pariin voisi palata juuri workprintin kautta. Eihän ne kultaiset (?) muistot kuitenkaan taida täyttyä alkuperäisestä elokuvasta.

Event Horizonin huhuttu workprint olisi mielenkiintoista nähdä, kun kyseessä on yksi pelottavimmista moderneista sci-fi kauhusteluista. Leikattuja pätkiä taidettiin käyttää niissä nopeissa kuvavirroissa, mutta olisihan tuo mukava nähdä "ehjänä".

Original workprint of the movie was 145 minutes long. It was cut by either director Walter Hill or the Paramount studio down to 120 minutes, and a week before its summer theatrical release an additional 25 minutes were cut out by Paramount, making a final theatrical version 95 minutes long.

Frank McRae's reprisal of his role from the original 48 Hrs. was entirely cut except for a brief, uncredited shot of him in the background of one scene in the police station. Brion James, also returning from the original, saw his role severely cut down as well, to create a faster-paced action-comedy. lähde wiki

Brion James "My stuff was in there until one week before the film opened; that is when they cut twenty-five minutes out of that movie, a week before it opened. It went from around 140 to down around 95 minutes. They said, Cut all the behavior, action, comedy..." I lost every major scene I had. That's the last time I ever cared about a movie because I went to the press screening and it was like getting kicked in the stomach, seeing what is not there. I was the third lead and now I looked like a dressed extra. All the stuff that they had in the set-up, stuff in the trailer, all those scenes were gone."


‑Nighthawks (1981) original cut 150 min.

Reportedly, the original cut of the film was just short of 2 1/2 hours long.^[Numerous scenes between Stallone and Wagner, as well as Rutger Hauer and Persis Khambatta, which fleshed out both characters and plot were deleted because Universal wanted a fast-paced action film. Stallone also had a hand in re-editing of the film. He was jealous of Hauer, whose performance he felt dominated the film. Two versions of the film were shown to test audiences, one with more emphasis on Stallone's character and the other on Hauer's. The version featuring more of Hauer's scenes was better received by audiences. Stallone then removed some of Hauer's scenes from what became the final version of the film  . Tietysti Apocalypse now! Joskus tosin todella paskalla sen löytänyt mutta on niin surkea laatu että ei ole jaksanut katsoa.

Needful Things (1993) Director`s Cut 180 min.

The director's cut ran 180 minutes. The director was forced to edit it down to 120 minutes for theatrical release. On May 22, 1996, Turner Broadcasting Systems (TBS) aired the director's cut in a four-hour time-slot. The extra footage includes more of the citizens of Castle Rock and their lives, namely the character of Cora Rusk, played by Lisa Blount, shown only in passing in the current version.

Cobra workprint versio olisi itselleni se mieluisin. En ole löytänyt netistä ketään joka olisi edes nähnyt kyseistä versiota?

Luulisi myös, että jollakin olisi hallussa kyseinen workprint vhs nauha? Toivottavasti poistetut kohtaukset ovat tallella Warnerin varastossa ja saisimme joku päivä nähtäväksi tämän "mestariteoksen" pidemmän version!

Stallone ei ilmeisesti ole se taho joka tämän tekemiseen olisi halukas (blu-ray/dvd komenttiraita ymn.) ja Warner ei muutenkaan ole innokas julkaisemaan vanhoista elokuvistaan mitään director`s cut, Extended Cut ymn. versioita. Toivottavasti antaisivat esim. Arrowille, Shout! Factorylle ymn. julkaisijalle mahdollisuuden tähän.

Veteen Piirretty Viiva, Bluray julkaisussa oli muutamia poistettuja kohtauksia. Harmi ettei Malick ole onnistunut oikein tämän jälkeen enää.

Onkohan tästä olemassa ns.Adrien Brody-versiota?Brodyhan luuli olevansa käytännössä pääosassa ja tarinan mukaan roudasi koko sukunsa ensi-iltaan vain todetakseen että lähes koko roolisuoritus oli päätynyt editointihuoneen lattialle...

En tiedä haluaisinko nähdä aidosti yhtään workprint ‑versiota (Toki haluaisin nähdä loppuun tehdyt workprint versiot taasen monestakin..), mutta Apocalypse Now ja Dune olisivat anekdootteina kivoja. Vaikka jälkimmäistä rassaisi kovasti kaikki tekemättömät efektit yms. Veteen Piirrettyyn viivaan liittyy aika paljon epämääräisiä kommentteja, joten ilmeisesti materiaalia on kuvattu aika lailla, joten jonkinlainen pidempi versio voisi olla kova sana myös.

Tuohon on se koko pointti näissä workprinteissä, toisaalta olisi kiva nähdä, toisaalta tietää jo etukäteen että luvassa ei ole mikään definitiivinen leffakokemus. Dyynissäkin parhain versio jäi kiistatta toteutumatta (Jodorowsky + Giger), joten siinä sitä saa vasta käyttää mielikuvitusta.

Toivoa tuosta Thin Red Linesta antaa ainakin se että Criterionilta tulossa myös Tree of Lifen pidempi versio.

Henk. koht. kiinnostavia ainakin näin lonkalta mitä ei ole vielä mainittu:

Ken Russellin The Devils kokonaisuudessaan, vaikka jo julkaistulta DVD:ltä puuttuukin vain yksi kohtaus (?) ja teattereissakin näytetty, mutta Warner Bros. ei jostain syystä vain anna julkaista.

The Exorcist III alkuperäinen director's cut, hiljattain julkaistu BD kai lähin mahdollinen mikä pystytty kadonneesta materiaalista toteuttamaan

Tarkovskyn alkuperäinen Stalker mikä lienee tuhoutunut
